Cardiff Institute for the Blind (CIB) is now recruiting new members for its board of trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to support blind and partially sighted people across South Wales and shape our organisation’s future. We are particularly keen to hear from people with one or more of the following skills and experiences:
- Entrepreneurial, Commercial business start-up or management/leadership
- Income generation and/or fundraising
- Charity and/or corporate governance
- Digital marketing and communications
- Information governance
Training and support will be provided and we welcome applications from people with no experience of being a trustee or board member, as long as they have the skills required to contribute to the effectiveness of the Board and CIB as an organisation.
Cardiff Institute for the Blind supports thousands of blind and partially sighted people across South Wales to enjoy independent and fulfilled lives through a range of local services. We are over 150 years old, have an association agreement with RNIB and have offices in Cardiff, Swansea and Pontypridd. In addition to our charity status, we are also a limited company.
As an organisation that continually evolves, we intend to reach thousands more people with the support of our President; rugby legend Sir Gareth Edwards; and a wide range of public, private and Third sector partners. To do this even more efficiently and effectively, we are seeking additional directors for our board but we will also consider co-opted members.
So please get in touch if you want to make a huge difference to people’s lives. A commitment ranging between five to ten days a year is likely to be needed, usually with four board meetings taking place during the day. The appointment is subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Scheme check. There is currently no term of office but positions are reviewed by both parties after the first six months. Positions are unremunerated but expenses for travel maybe claimed.
CIB wants to build a strong and diverse Board of Trustees that reflects the communities it serves. Diversity can encompass a wide variety of characteristics including age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, religion, nationality, experience and skills.
We welcome nominations for individuals from all backgrounds and would particularly encourage nominations from young, disabled or Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, areas that are currently under-represented on our Board.
To apply, please send your a covering letter outlining why you are interested in the post and what particular skills and experiences you feel you can contribute to [email protected] or contact Kieran Harris, Director of Operations, on 07881 908 132, if you want to find out more.
