Hospital Support

What is the Hospital Support Service?

Sight Life’s Hospital Support Service operates at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales at Heath Park. The Service provides support to patients attending the eye clinic. Our Hospital Support Service volunteers try to be there for people when they receive a diagnosis of sight loss. Such news can be hard to take in, so our volunteers are there when people need a friendly face or a helping hand to support them.

What does the service offer?

The Hospital Support team ensures that patients attending the eye clinic are given emotional and practical help, support, information and reassurance in a non-obtrusive way.

What about training?

Hospital Support Service volunteers receive special awareness training and support from our full-time staff. Hospital Support Service volunteers need to be really good listeners.

Will I have my expenses paid?

Yes – we pay expenses for travel to and from the hospital.

How often will I be needed?

That’s up to you – but for the Hospital Support service we prefer volunteers who are able to give a regular commitment.
